Ode to 2011

2011....wow.  What a year it has been!  2010 was my least favorite year ever.  I couldn't wait for it to end and I was glad when it did.  2010 was full of loss and heartache for me.  I lost my sweet Pappaw in January of that year.  We lost our baby at 10 weeks pregnant in April of that year.  The rest of that year was spent grieving and trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant again.  As I have said before, what a difference a year can make.  This has been the best year ever and I am sad to see it go!

PS- A lot of the happenings of 2011 didn't make it on the blog because I was horrible about blogging while I was pregnant!  So this will be the first time you see or hear about a lot of this! ;)

January

We went to Chicago for the first time ever.  Shon had a test to take there.  We loved it and can't wait to go back!

Found out we were PREGNANT!  Finally!  This brought emotions of joy and fear...but the joy and excitement eventually outweighed the fear.

Also shortly thereafter, found out that one of my best friends, Andrea, was also pregnant and due just 3 days after me!

February

My hubby, Shon, turned 26.  My sister, Sophia, turned 10.  One of my best friends, Megan and her husband Jared, had their first baby- a little girl named Lola Ryan.  This was the first baby born to our little group of friends and we were (and still are!) all so in love with her!

March

Announced our pregnancy on this blog!

Match Day happened in March.  Shon was in his last year of medical school and we would find out where he matched for his residency program on St. Patrick's Day.  It's a pretty dramatic deal- big ceremony with the whole class and spouses/family present.  Everyone receives an envelope which they all open at the same time which tells where they will be going.  We could have ended up in Michigan, Illinois, or stayed in Louisville....the latter of which was our first choice because we didn't want to move any farther away from family...especially with a baby on the way.  Another prayer answered --- we found out we would STAY!

On March 23, our niece and MY Goddaughter (!),  Natalie Rose, was born.  She became our 13th niece/nephew (all on my hubs' side).  We were in love with her from the start, too...and she continues to be *THE* sweetest, most smiley, happiest baby ever!

April

This month was pretty laid back.  I think my horrible morning sickness finally started leaving my life at some point of this month!

Another of my best friends, Tia, had her bridal shower.

April 25th was the 1 year anniversary of the loss of our sweet baby.  I blogged about that day, here.

May

Busy month!

My niece & Goddaughter, Natalie, was baptized.

(Shon's brother, Steve, is her Godfather.)

We had a bachelorette party for my friend, Tia!

My hubby graduated from Medical School on May 14th!!!

On May 16th, we found out that the baby in my belly was a BOY!!!  Blogged about that day, here!

Video of telling my family the gender (it's the greatest!) :

My friend, Andrea, found out on the SAME day that she was expecting a girl!

My friends from the med-spouse club threw me a little baby shower early because we would be going our separate ways after graduation.

~
Wow, what a year....just chock full of blessings!  This year has really been all about Holden. :)  I suspect that the years to come will be all about him as well....and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Thank you, Lord, for a wonderful, redeeming year.  A year of deliverance, answered prayers, blessings, miracles, love, happiness, and joy.  Thank you for watching over us and protecting us and giving us WAY more than we deserve.  I cannot be thankful enough for the year 2011.  It has definitely been one for the books!

*I hope I haven't left anything important out!  This was made a little easier thanks to the new facebook timeline!  I will probably think of something later and have to add on! ;)

Holden's First Christmas 2011

Our Christmas festivities started Saturday on Christmas Eve.  Shon and I exchanged gifts at home and gave Holden & Douglas their presents. ;)  Originally, Shon was supposed to work Christmas morning...but Friday evening he was told to go in on Saturday morning instead...which was the best present ever!  We always go to my parents' for Christmas morning...so this meant that Shon would get to go with us and spend Christmas Day with us afterall!

Christmas Eve-

Yes, Doug the Pug really opens his own presents every year!

Holden with his presents from Mommy & Daddy.  We didn't get him much because A.) He could care less at this point and B.) We knew his grandparents would be going overboard. ;)  I thought the Christmas books would be a good idea because we will read them every Christmas and can tell him that he got them for his very first Christmas!  The doggy piano attaches to his crib.  He is quite the kicker and he can kick the notes to "play" them!

{Family shot on Christmas Eve- Holden wasn't having it ;) }

We traveled to my parents' house (about an hour away) Christmas Eve night.

Christmas Day -

Christmas morning, we were awakened by my 10 year old sister, Sophia, to come open presents!

Holden slept through gift opening Christmas morning!

{Santa still overfills our stockings!}

We got everything we wanted and more... Ergo baby carrier, Kindle, Tom's, Chaco's, clothes, etc.  We got a Keurig and k-cup holder for my parents and a furry vest, leg warmers, and headband for my sister.

After the gift opening, we ate breakfast and then, since it was Sunday, started getting ready for church.  My dad is the pastor of the baptist church we attend there.  I really liked going to church on Christmas.  It made us take time out to really celebrate and think about the true meaning of Christmas -
the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

{Christmas Day, after church...being silly!)

After church, we just relaxed and hung out all day before going back home that evening.

Here is Holden with all of his Christmas loot from Pappy & Gigi, Aunt Sophia, & Santa. :)

:)

It was such a blessing to have Holden here with us this year.  I found myself trying not to cry at many points over the Christmas weekend.  I'm just so thankful to have our little boy here.  He makes everything a little sweeter...everything more special.

We had a wonderful First Christmas with Holden.

We will be having Christmas with Shon's family on New Year's Day... so there is more Christmas to come!

I'm linking up this post....click button below to share your Christmas, too!
