I got behind on doing Holden's 16 month post and so at some point decided to do a combined 16 & 17 month post and it is still a little late... but better late than never. I told myself I wouldn't commit to continuing these types of posts after a year... but then I just kept going. We'll see how much longer it lasts... ;)
Two months in one post is really hard to do. I haven't done a great job of writing things down so I'm pretty much relying on my brain/memory. A lot happens in two months of toddlerhood. Holden has learned and said and done so many new things over the past couple of months that I will definitely be forgetting some things and leaving things out!
Activities:
- Still loves books and looks at books independently as well as brings them to us to read frequently. He points and asks us what objects are, can point and name many objects in books, etc. He has also picked up on and can recite some small parts of a few books.
- Loves singing songs. Between my mom "Gigi" and myself and Shon, this kid has been sung to a lot. It shows- because he loooooves singing/being sung to. Some favorite songs are "Wheels on the Bus," "Pat-a-cake," "Old McDonald," "ABC's," and "Twinkle Twinkle." He "sings along" with these songs and knows several parts of all of them which he tries to sing. He also knows and performs a lot of the motions. We find it adorable- especially because he is very serious about it.
- Has become a strong Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fan. We don't have satellite/cable so no Disney Jr. but we have a couple of Mickey DVD's that he watches from time to time. We also allow him to watch it on our phones in times of desperation. He calls Mickey, "Ninny" and will often say, "Ohhh Ninny!" which cracks us up. He says "Oh Toooo" for "Oh Toodles!" with a raised arm. He dances to the intro song and to "The Hotdog Dance." His dancing resembles tap dancing... lots of feet movement!
- Started running around 16 months. He's a runner! Wide open space = run!
New Words:
This is getting to be an impossible category to keep up with because he has been saying new words every day. By far his most used words are two phrases: "Wu-sat?" (What's or Who's That) and "Oh no!" "Oh no" is not new but is still used A LOT. He says it in different tones depending on the situation and it's still funny to us. "Wu-sat" is a new phrase he started over the past couple months and he asks it ALL.OF.THE.TIME! Pointing and exclaiming "Wu-sat?!?!" at anything and everything. I suppose this is how he is figuring out the world around him. Other new words over the past couple of months that stick out in my mind are: nana (banana), craw-cuh (cracker- also used for cookie or other snacks and for crocodile), nuk (milk), Gigi, Bah-pa (Pappaw), "Bah-ple" (apple), eye, sone (nose), ee-ah (ear). He also still has very serious and long "conversations" with us that are a lot of very animated jibber-jabber that we still don't quite understand.
New Animal Sounds and other "tricks:"
- He knows the majority of animal sounds. New ones over the last couple of months have been monkey, crocodile, horse, zebra, goat, dog, cat, rabbit (hop hop), bird.
- Also knows other random sounds for things such as train, tractor, car, and the snoring sound.
- Can identify eyes, nose, ear, hair, belly (although sometimes calls it baby), and toes.
Teeth:
4 on top, almost 4 on bottom, and 4 molars = 12 teeth!
Eating:
Drinks whole milk and water and an occasional Chick-fil-a lemonade. ;) He loves lemonade! Breakfast is usually milk, a fruit cup, and a (microwave) plain or blueberry pancake or a plain/blueberry waffle with butter. Other things he likes to eat are fruit/veggie pouches, applesauce, bananas and pretty much any fruit, yogurt, pudding, cheese, crackers, cookies, lunch meat, pizza, grilled cheese, mixed veggies with cheese sauce (not a big veggie fan), pasta with alfredo sauce, macaroni & cheese, tortilla chips, scrambled eggs, sausage, toddler mum mums, cheeseburgers, french fries, chicken nuggets... quite a variety. And just because he likes some of these things one time doesn't mean he likes them the next. Such is the toddler way, right?
Sleep:
Still sticking with same routine of bedtime at 7:30-8:30pm and wakes up anywhere from 8:30-10:30am most days! One nap around 1-2pm which usually lasts anywhere from one to three (rare!) hours.
Sizes:
Weighed 25 lbs. 3.5 oz. and were 32.5 in. long at belated 15 month appointment which was actually closer to 16 months. Can wear a range of 12 month to 2T in shirts... they either fit well or are a little big...who cares? ;) In 18 month/18-24 month pants/jeans. Still in size 4 diapers and size 5 at night.
Personality:
Sweet, silly, funny, curious, inquisitive, energetic. Outgoing when we are present- super outgoing and comfortable at family gatherings/with grandparents and while out in public with us. However, he seems to have strong separation anxiety when we leave him with someone he doesn't know as well - such as with friends of ours or at church nursery. We've had no luck with church nursery so far...but a big part of this is our fault since we just started attempting to take him recently. Before now, he sat with us or we took him out but kept him with us in cry room, etc. I think he'll get used to it with consistency.... but it breaks our hearts to see him so upset! The most recent time we left him in his nursery class we got "paged" to come get him. As for tantrums, they aren't very frequent thankfully. The main thing he "throws a fit" about is getting in his car seat. He just doesn't want whatever fun we were having to end and/or wants to stay outside. We experienced one time where he hit my friend's little girl that I was holding in my lap...which totally freaked me out considering the impending birth of his baby brother. He was obviously jealous. He didn't hit her hard and she didn't even notice... but it was the first time I had seen him really act "mean"/jealous.

Currently making us laugh:
- We got a new vehicle- a Toyota Sienna mini-van. It has automatic sliding doors. Also, Holden sits next to the door now instead of in the middle as he did in our car. Anyway, every time the door opens and we go to get him out of his seat he greets us with, "Hi!" usually accompanied by a wave and shortly followed by, "Oh no!" Hilarious! Why?!?! We don't know...but it's so funny.
- He loves to climb....anything and everything
(but luckily not out of his crib...knock on wood):
